Highland & Foothill at Bakersfield

What a difference a year makes. Last year this season ending meet matched undefeated Highland and the Drillers. The race was hard fought and Highland ended up winning 26 to 29 and ended the season undefeated in duels. The Drillers were 5 and 1 and took second overall behind Highland in the SEYL.

This year Highland has not had any competition and has been posting a lot of 15s on people (their scoring five beats the other school's first runner). They have been lead by senior Colin Lewis (16:32) who is also undefeated in duels this season as well. The are almost assured of yet another SEYL title and are looking to win valley after coming in second the past two seasons.

The Drillers on the other hand have gone from 5 and 1 to 0 and 5. Their postponed meet with Golden Valley will be a battle of the defeateds when it is contested. BHS did manage to escape getting the dreaded 15 to 50 score, where the other school's seven come in before your first runner. Tony Smith ran 18:06 to save them from this fate.

Foothill was lead by Erick Bautista (16:44) and appears to be missing its top runner Jose Lopez. The Trojans ended the year with a 4 - 2 duel meet record, which guarantees them second since only Liberty could tie them and their last meet is against Highland.

On the girl's side, Sarah Baker continued her winning ways with a 19:24 clocking on her home course to lead her Driller's to a 5 - 0 record. With only Golden Valley in their way, the Drillers should have back to back undefeated duel meet seasons. At the SEYL league meet, they will be going for their second overall team title in three seasons and Sarah will be going for her third individual title.

Like the boys, the Lady Trojans are also 4 - 2 for the season and will be battling Liberty or Highland for second place overall in the SEYL. Liberty and Highland are 3 - 2 and have to make up their postponed meet this month. Highland has been lead all season by Rodriguez (20:02) and her team mates have been improving throughout the season.
