Well the Governor of California, declared the drought over recently and anyone who did this year's race can attest to that. The "creek" was the widest it has ever been (I have been attending this race for 30 plus years almost.). It was a good 30 to 40 yards across and moving swiftly.

The good thing is it was not very deep, maybe up to one's calves in places. The bottom was sandy and/or muddy though so when you went through it in the first mile of the race, you were going to have heavy shoes the rest of the way.

On the first trip through the creek, some decided to take their shoes off but on the second passing, I think everybody said lets get wet. In fact, the water was refreshing at that point in the race.

Hopefully the cool water cooled of some of the leaders in the ten mile that were directed the wrong way after we went up the big hill after the creek crossing. The course was the same as last year but there was some confusion at this junction that did impact the race but that is racing.

At the top of the first hill, the race always goes left.

For most of the race, Anna Frank and Zach Parris were leading and in the end Zach took the win with a time of 1:0327 to Anna's 1:04:02. The second women in the race was senior Driller Sarah Baker who came in 12th overall in a time of 1:17:31. Earlier in the week Baker broke the Bakersfield High  1600/mile record with a 5:05 clocking (The old record was 5:10 from 1978), the ten miler was a training run for her.

Zach & Anna were leading the 10 mile race throughout the day.
