Sloan & Guzman Win the BC Invite 5k

Blair Sloan (Stockdale) ran 16:36 and Monica Guzman (Garces, see photo) ran 20:24 for the individual wins at the BC Invite at the soccer complex near CALM. The 5k course is a challenging course in that it is similar to Woodward Park in some ways.

The course has a lot of thick grass, some hills and some dirt trails too. The start is at one end of the large soccer complex which allows for a large field to thin out before getting on the bike path. The course goes uphill for awhile on the bike path and then returns along a rolling dirt trial that runs along the river. Then it does a U-turn and gets back on the bike path for the return trip to the soccer complex finish where the grass was long and there was water on the fields too.

The fields were large for this meet because there was only one race for each gender. So the frosh/soph, jv and varsity ran together. While good for some hoping to crack their varsity roster, many would of been happy to do their usual 2 mile race.
In the girl's team race, North took the team title with an excellent 2,3,4 finish. Lead by Kaylee Moyer (20:31), the Stars beat Stockdale 50 to 68. However, Stockdale was missing two of their top runners in Nelson and Patel who out ran Moyer on Wednesday at the duel meet.

With this win, North is showing that it is getting better and better with each meet and they have a large squad to draw from like Stockdale. Having a top three run 20:31, 20:45 (E. Perez) and 21:05 (Y. Perez) is a sign that they are becoming a team to beat especially in big field invites.

In the boy's race, Stockdale went 1,2,3 and 5th with only Golden Valley's Daymon Sandles breaking up their pack of four. Stockdale took the team win with 27 points and were followed by East with 63. I believe this was East's first invite of the season.

Mcfarland Boys Win Rubber Match

It was a draw but now Mcfarland has taken the rubber match and beat Ridgeview fairly convincingly and came close to beating division one power Clovis West (1. Clovis West 61 2. McFarland 69 3. Ridgeview 96) at this week's meet at Cutler Park.

Once again Mcfarland did it with there pack running style, they were lead by freshman Erick Garcia (16:19) who came in 7th overall. He was followed by:

Having your top five in the top 19 is excellent at a meet of this caliber. Their time spread of 42 seconds for the three mile course will tighten up even more as the season progresses. Besides taking second overall, the Cougars won the medium size school division (1. McFarland 19 2. Parlier 58 3. Exeter 60 4. Yosemite 103 5. Granite Hills 139 6. Kingsburg 156 7. Orosi 177)

Ridgeview was lead by Robby Baker (Sr) who came in second overall in 16:00. He was followed by his team Alex Garcia who ran 16:02. Scoring 5 points with your first two runners is a coaches dream but no other Ridgeviwer cracked the top 20 and hence the other three athletes score 94 points. In the extra large schools division, Ridgeview took second (1. Clovis West 32 2. Ridgeview 42 3. Tulare Western 84 4. Clovis East 95 5. Reseda 141 6. Hoover 145).

Like Robby, Tijerra Lynch took second overall in a time of 19:34. she lead her team to a second place overall finish. The following team mates cracked the top 20:

It appears that Ridgeview had it's second tie of the season in the Extra Large School Division:
