Insane! 514 starters! I rolled up to CALM around 6:15 and the parking lot was packed and we were lucky because the crowds got bigger and bigger. Last year the first race drew 387 and it is a good thing that the BTC moved the race to CALM and that they bought a chip timing system. It was really good to see so many Kern County cross country teams at the race getting ready for the fall season.
In the end, Stockdale's Cameron Miller (15:38) and CSUB's Arianna Celis (18:09) were the fastest on the new 5k course. Behind Miller was his team mate Connor Fisher (16:19) and former Mustang Ryan Lucker (16:42). Shafter's Cambria Tudor was the high school runner I believe.
Before the race, I spoke to Cameron and congratulated him on his huge PR in the 3200 at the state meet (9:10) and we joked about how he would of been state champ in most of the states with a time like that instead of 21st. This year's 3200 broke the record of 9 runners under 9 minutes, this year there were 13!
I also spoke to a number of coaches and wished Coach Renz (formerly of Centennial) good luck with his new gig. He is taking over the head coaching job at Liberty and he will have his hands full with not only coaching duties but hosting all of the local meets. Coach Armour (Centennial XC) was with his team and they were ready to run hard as well along with many other squads.
After the gun went off, I spoke to Coach Sundgren (Shafter XC) about his great turnout for the first week of summer training (he had over 50 athletes). He was talking shop with Coach Ayon (Mcfarland) who will be taking his athletes to the Tahoe Relay this weekend.

Wykoff Report:
- Results Without Name HERE.
6/7 - The BTC Summer Series: 5k #1 was great tonight. We had a record 514 runners under fantastic conditions for our new course. The chip mats missed 6 of you at the start, and 5 of you at the finish, but thanks to the back up hand written list, we have times for everyone. We still have to enter all of your names and other information before we post results. The hamsters will be busy at work on this over the next few days. Trivia tidbit for you guys. It took 1 minute, 27.65 seconds for all of you to cross the start line tonight.
too be continued...
