Site: Woodward Park Fresno, CAMeet Recap:
The McFarland Boys continued their winning ways at the Valley meet. The boys moved up to division three and beat Shafter: 39 to 43. In this race, Wasco was third and Ridgeview was fourth. Shafter senior Jesus Villapando stayed on his feet this time and beat McFarland sophomore Erik Garcia for the individual title. Shafter's team time was 12 seconds faster then McFarland's but McFarland's 2,4,5 finish is a tough hurdle to overcome.
The McFarland Girls had an easier win in the division four race over Firebaugh: 38 to 46.
The Shafter Girls won the division three title over Ridgeview: 42 to 82. Shafter sophomore Nicolette Aldape won the individual title as well. Independence came in third.
In division one, the Stockdale boys took second and qualified for the state meet. This is the first time in recent memory that a Bakersfield team has done this. The Lady Mustangs came in third and also qualified for state because their 6th runner beat Clovis East's 6th to break the tie.

Seven local teams and an additional 11 individuals qualified for the CIF State Cross Country Championships at yesterday's Central Section Championships in Fresno.
Stockdale's boys and girls will head to state, which is Nov. 27 at Woodward Park in Fresno, for the Division I races. Also qualifying were McFarland's boys (D-III) and girls (D-IV), Shafter's boys and girls (both D-III) and Ridgeview's girls (D-III).
Boys individual qualifiers were: Ivan Esquivias, Highland, 16:36, Division II; Daymon Sandles, Golden Valley, 16:23, Division III; Omar Nunez, Delano, 16:30, Division III; and Jeremais Xancale, Taft, 17:10, Division IV.
Stockdale teammates Cameron Miller (15:53) and Blake Haney (16:01) had the fastest local boys times, followed by D-III champion Jesus Villalpondo of Shafter (16:05).
Girls individual qualifiers were: Sydney Roman, East, 19:30, Division II; Marie Navea-Huff, Garces, 20:00, Division II; Natalie Fernandez, Foothill, 19:38, Division III; Shayla Russell, Independence, 20:41, Division III; Emily Viveros, Independence, 20:42, Division III; and Ashley Haycock, Highland, 20:45, Division III.
Bakersfield High senior Sarah Baker ran the day's fastest time by a local, 19:26, and finished 12th in the Division I race. However, Baker was seventh among individuals, and only five qualify for state. Ironically if Stockdale had not beat Clovis East with their 6th girls, Baker would have been the fifth and last state qualifier. Since Clovis East lost, their athletes who came in 7th and 8th go to state as individuals.

- Stockdale took third and qualified for the state meet because their 6th runner beat Clovis East's 6th runner and broke the tie between them. The Mustangs did this despite missing two of their top runners (Haney & Patel). Stockdale ran 100:31 and were lead by Cynthia Lopez who ran 19:38 for 16th place.
- Centennial came in 6th place in a time of 104:23. They were lead by Molly Pruett (24th/20:19).
- The Drillers came in 7th in a time of 105:33. They were lead by Sarah Baker who ran 19:26 for 12th place. She made state last year as an individual but did not this year. The rule is one must be in the top 14 and be one of the top 5 athletes. She was in the top 14 but was the 7th individual. Her time was the fastest Kern County time of the day.

CENTRAL SECTION CROSS-COUNTRY
INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS BY DIVISION
By Andy Noise
Through results submitted by Monday, November 19th
BOYS
Division 1
* Kevin Barnard, Sr., Buchanan
* CJ Albertson. So., Buchanan
* Josh Webb, Sr., Clovis
* Cameron Miller, Jr., Stockdale
* Cody Brazeal, So., Buchanan
Comments - Many central section squads traveled to Mt. Sac last weekend and Clovis's Webb ran 15:26 to Miller 's 15:28. Buchanan stayed in the valley and ran the Seaman Invitational 5k where Albertson ran 14:59 to Bernard's 15:02. Their team mate Brazeal ran 15:21 to stay in the top 5.
On Deck - Clovis junior Ryan Phillips ran 15:40 at Mt Sac and has run 15:59 at Woodward earlier this season. Stockdale freshman Blake Haney ran 15:33 at Mt Sac and at Clovis became the fastest central section freshman of all-time with a 15:57 clocking. At the Kern Championships, Haney ran 15:13 (3rd) to Miller's 15:15 (4th).
Team Outlook - With three of the top five individuals, the Buchanan Bears are the top team in the central section. They ran 79:24 at Clovis to Stockdale's 82:07 and Clovis's 82:46. At Mt Sac, Stockdale and Clovis had the same team time of 79:44. With three teams moving on to state, these three are the teams to beat and it looks like a real battle for second place.
Division 2
* Justin Vilhauer, Sr., Redwood
* Nathan Esparza, Jr., Madera South
* Daniel Llamas, Jr., Sunnyside
* Angel Flores, Sr., Madera South
* Cody Kinsmen, Jr., Clovis North
Comments - The top runner in the central section is Redwood's Vilhauer who was the section's top runner at Clovis and Mt. Sac. He ran 14:43 at Mt. Sac and was almost a minute faster than his next division 2 rival. Madera South's Esparza ran 15:41 and was closely followed by his teammate Flores (15:45), Sunnyside's Llamas (15:48) and Clovis North's Kinsmen (15:56).
On Deck - Madera South junior Juan Navia (Woodward 16:43) and Sunnyside sophomore Nick Corson (Woodward 16:39).
Team Outlook - Madera South is the team to beat. They ran 80:15 at Mt Sac and have the best Woodward times this year as well. Second is a close one between Clovis North and Sunnyside. At Clovis, Sunnyside ran 87:04 to North's 87:11 and at Mt. Sac Sunnyside ran 83:59 to North's 84:41. With only two teams moving on to state, the race for second will be a good one.
Division 3
* Erik Garcia, So., McFarland
* Jesus Villalpando, Sr., Shafter
* Francisco Nava, Sr., McFarland
* Jose Monrreal, Jr., McFarland
* Alex Moreno, Sr., Shafter
Comments - Shafter and McFarland ran in different races at Mt. Sac. McFarland ran in the sweepstakes race where Garcia ran 15:28 to Nava's 15:49 and Monrreal's 15:57. Shafter's Villalpando ran 15:52 at Mt Sac in a non-seeded race.
Both squads have run heads up several times this year and at the Wolf pack Invitational Garcia and Villalpando were neck and neck with 50 yards to go. Then Villalpando tripped and fell to the ground and Garcia took the win.
This weekend at the Kern Championships the scene was the same with the two sprinting to the finish. The Shafter senior ended up on the ground again after lunging himself to the finish line. Garcia stayed on his feet and took the win 15:08.5 to 15:08.6.
Team Outlook - Two teams move on to state and they might tie for first if it were not for the 6th man tie breaker. Early this year, Shafter went to McFarland for a scrimmage and Shafter came out on top. Then they both ran at the Wolf pack Invitational where McFarland won.
At Mt. Sac they ran in separate races and McFarland ran 80:33 to Shafter's 82:07. McFarland had the advantage in that they were running in the sweepstakes race. Then at the Kern Championships they tied. Shafter ended up winning because their 6th man came in 29th to McFarland's 58th. On team time, Shafter ran 78:36 to McFarland's 78:40.
Division 4
* Robert Leija, Jr., Parlier
* Christian Gonzales, Sr., Exeter
* Jesus Arceo, Jr., Parlier
* Robert Reid, So., Exeter
* Jason Reyes, Sr., Parlier
Comment - No change in this division. Parlier had a good showing at the Seaman 5k where their top three were the fastest by division 4 runners that day.
On Deck - Avenal junior Luis Ramirez ran 16:36 at Mt. Sac and was one of the top five division four runners at Seaman along with Kerman's Dallas Nord.
Team Outlook - With the nine hundred pound gorilla / nine time state team champ McFarland being moved to division three, there will be a new division four champ after decades of McFarland dominance.
Three teams move on to state and the top three teams are Parlier, Avenal and Exeter. Parlier ran 82:13 to Avenal's 85:53 at the Seaman 5k and Exter ran 84:38 to Avendal's 85:29 at Mt. Sac. Kerman has beaten Avenal this year at Woodward and could crack the top three at valley.
Division 5
* Tyler VanDer Schuur, Sr., Central Valley Christian
* Cesar Gonzales, Sr., Tranquility
* Fernando Guitierrez, Jr., Tranquility
* Ayala Moises, Sr., Tranquility
* Carlos Gonzales, Sr., Traquilty
Comment - Only Central Valley and Tranquility have appeared on central section results. Recently, Tranquility ran at the Seaman 5k and posted some good times. Cesar Gonzales ran 16:29 behind Schuur's leading 16:02.
Team Outlook - Only two teams have shown up in central section results and two teams move on to state. In heads up competition this season Tranquility has bested Central Valley Christian.
GIRLS
Division 1
* Hagen Reedy, So., Buchanan
* Macy Bricks, Sr., Buchanan
* Ali Teliha, So., Bullard
* Sami Ikuma, Fr, Clovis East
* Lindsay Gray, Jr., Clovis
Comment - Reedy and Bricks ran 17:28 and 17:53 at the Seaman 5k while many of the other central section athletes ran at Mt. Sac. Leading the way at Mt. Sac was Lindsay Gray with a 18:24 clocking which was a much better run then here 19:28 at Clovis a few weeks earlier. Ikuma ran 18:32 at Mt. Sac and 18:20 at the Seaman 5k. Teliha of Bullard remains in the top 5 based off of her 18:22 at Clovis.
On Deck - Brittany Laygo who is a sophomore at Clovis East ran 18:37 at Mt. Sac and 19:17 at Clovis. Also Bakersfield High senior Sarah Baker ran 18:46 at Mt Sac in a non-seeded race and then won the Kern Championships in a time of 17:46 (which was 29 seconds faster then the second place finisher). She qualified for state last year as an individual.
Team Outlook - Like the boys, the Buchanan girls have dominated this season. At Clovis they ran 85:23 to Clovis East's 100:27 and Clovis's West's 102:15. At Mt. Sac, Clovis ran 89:27 to West's 98:01 and East's 98:46. Three teams move on to state and it looks like it will be a race between East and West for the final spot. If Bullard and/or Stockdale get healthy, they may challenge for the third spot.
Division 2
* Megan Osten, Jr., Sanger
* Jennifer Moffett, Fr., Clovis North
* Jennifer Nakamura, Sr., Clovis North
* Sarah Aghazeynali, Jr., Clovis North
* Celina Vera, Jr., Tulare Union
Comment - Central Section marks at times can be late or incomplete and hence runners get left of rankings. One who got lost in the fog of reporting was Sanger junior Megan Osten who ran 19:39 at the Rough Rider Invitational at Woodward Park. This time is the division's best this season.
Osten also ran the top time at Mt. Sac and the Seaman 5k (18:47). Her 18:15 at Mt. Sac was ahead of Moffett and Nakamura's 18:24s, Aghazeynali's 19:15 and Vera's 19:35.
Team Outlook - Three teams move on to state from this division. With three runners in the top 5, it looks like Clovis North is the top team . They had the top time at Clovis (102:13), Mt. Sac (95:38) and Rough Rider. Tulare Union was behind them at Clovis (1:03:13) and Rough Rider. Madera South ran 101:36 at Mt Sac and was the best division two team at the Seaman 5k with a time of 108:58.
Division 3
* Tijerra Lynch, Sr., Ridgeview
* Nicolette Adalpe, So., Shafter
* Cambria Tudor. So., Shafter
* Lashya Morgan, So., Ridgeview
* Desiree Armendariz, Jr., Ridgeview
Comment - Lynch continues to post the top division three times. At Mt Sac she ran 19:20 and was followed by Tudor in 19:25. At the Kern Championships she ran 18:17 behind Driller Sarah Baker and Adalpe was behind her in 18:51 followed by Tudor (18:55). Morgan and Armendariz ran 20:02 and 20:17 at Mt Sac then swapped places at the Kern Championships where Morgan ran 19:07 to Armendariz's 19:44.
On Deck - Foothill High senior Natalie Fernandez, who has been dominating the new SEYL posted a 20:02 at Mt Sac.
Team Outlook - Two teams move on to state and the top two are Ridgeview and Shafter which dominate the individual top 5. Over the past two weeks, these squads have been trading jabs that started earlier in the year. At Mt Sac, Shafter had the best team time of 103:16 to Ridgeview's 103:29.
Then at the Kern Championships, Ridgeview took third with 122 points to Shafter's 124 points. The team time was Shafter's 99:44 to Ridgeview's 100:10. Shafter's head coach Darin Sundgren will have a nail bitter at the central section championships on November 12th because both his squads are almost dead even with their opponents for first place.
Division 4
* Katie Fry, Sr., Exeter
* Linda Ramos, Sr., Firebaugh
* Yvonne Sandoval, So., Firebaugh
* Jennifer Ramirez, Fr., McFarland
* Kathy Torres, Jr., McFarland
Comment - Fry continues to dominate her division and posted a 17:46 at Mt Sac, which was almost two minutes faster then the next division four runner. Firebaugh ran well at Mt. Sac with Ramos leading the way with a 19:42 clocking. Her team mate Sandoval was behind her in a time of 19:47 followed by McFarland's Ramirez (19:50) and Torres (20:12).
Team Outlook - Two teams move on to the state meet in this division and the top three teams have been trading place throughout the season. At Clovis, McFarland lead with a time of 109:59, Exeter was 110:17 and Firebaugh ran 110:24. A few weeks later at Rough Rider, Exeter ran 104:19 with McFarland and Firebaugh behind them.
Mt Sac was the last race that they all ran at and Exter posted the fastest time of 100:40 to Firebaugh's 101:57 and McFarland's 1:02:42.
Division 5
* Kacie Van Hofwegan, Sr., Central Valley Christian
* Kristen Von Meter, Sr., Central Valley Christian
* Mina Baxley. Jr., Central Valley Christian
* Kelly Toms, Sr., Central Valley Christian
* Katelyn Von Meter, Fr., Central Valley Christian
Comment - Central Valley Christian was the only division 5 team to appear in central section results. They recently ran the Seaman 5k where Toms lead the way with a 21:13.
