Consciously or not, many runners push too hard on easy runs and miss out on their varied benefits—like time to heal, for one. Demanding workouts like speedwork and long runs put a great deal of stress on muscles, and "any time there's a stress, you have to allow some recovery time for those tissues to rebuild," McMillan says. Time spent going easy also builds your fitness base and staves off burnout. "Easy runs allow you to focus on enjoying the run and your surroundings," says Michael Sachs, Ph.D., a sports psychologist at Temple University.

The Mineral King Loop 50K is located in the Sequoia National Park. From the 99 take Mineral King Road about 3 miles outside of 3-Rivers. The trail head elevation is 7,800 feet and climbs to Sawtooth pass 11,600 feet.

The goal is very simple: To continue as “THE Go-To Source” for
California-related coverage of cross-country and track and field, with
our primary focus on the high school scene.
We are beyond excited since our new platform will allow for more
frequent site updates and more posting options, which means we’ll be
better equipped to bring you up to speed on everything regarding our
fine sports, its athletes, and its programs.
In order to make this a total success, we need your support!
If you can help spread the word about the new website, the
ever-increasing awareness will lead to a cyclical pattern of news flow
that further strengthens the website’s foundation and future
efforts.

My VO2max Test Results: Running to Exhaustion! | Runblogger
That’s the description of the test itself, so what exactly does VO2max mean? Basically, it’s a measure of how much oxygen you can deliver to your working muscles during maximal exercise. The higher your VO2max, the more oxygen you are able to deliver to fuel metabolism. This is influenced by many factors, from your lung size to your cardiac output to the capillarization of your muscles to the function of enzymes in your muscles. However, despite how often VO2max is mentioned, it’s not a perfect indicator of performance capability (other factors like economy and anaerobic threshold come into play here), but it can give some idea of your endurance potential

- On Wed, 9/12 @ 10am EST, registration is open to runners who beat their time by 10+ minutes.
- On Fri, 9/14 @ 10am EST, registration is open to runners who beat their time by 5+ minutes.
- On Mon, 9/17 @ 10am EST, registration is open to all runners with a qualifying time. If registration exceeds the ~22,000 slots* by the end of the week, priority will be given to those with the fastest times in their age group.
- On Mon, 9/24 @ 10am EST, registration will re-open to all runners with a qualifying time if remaining slots are open.
