Haney only made it look that way. A year after setting a freshman state record in winning the Central Section title in the 1,600 meters, he won a section title in the 3,200 and finished third in the state in the 1,600.
His best times in the mile (4:09.43 at the prestigious adidas Grand Prix Dream Mile), 1,600 (4:09.29) and 3,200 (8:54.65) were the best by a sophomore in the nation.
