Time Versus Distance For Pacing (and Training) | Sweat Science

This appears to be because time cues, which can only be imagined, are cognitively more challenging than distance information that is directly observable.

About 180 people finish the trail each year, and to date, more people have summited Mount Everest than have completed the hike.

Raise Your Athletic IQ - Runner's World

 Control Your Self-Image
Research shows that marathoners who expect to hit "the wall" do indeed hit it, says Kamphoff. "In any race you need to imagine yourself strong," she says. "Pay attention to the images in your mind, and be ready to adjust them if you need to talk yourself out of a tough spot."

Food for thought: “The contenders chase titles at the end of the year. The pretenders chase rankings at the beginning of the year.”

PrepCalTrack.Com is Live

Dear Coaches, Athletes, Meet Directors, Officials, Parents and Enthusiasts, Welcome to PrepCalTrack.com ! With the recent decision of ESPNHS to cease its involvement in various high school-related ventures (ESPNHS websites, the ESPNHS magazine, etc.), longtime DyeStatCal editor Rich Gonzalez has teamed with Jim Roldan and Nate Fox of EPI Sports to create PrepCalTrack.com ! Today is Launch Day! The goal is very simple: To continue as “THE Go-To Source” for California-related coverage of cross-country and track and field, with our primary focus on the high school scene. We are beyond excited since our new platform will allow for more frequent site updates and more posting options, which means we’ll be better equipped to bring you up to speed on everything regarding our fine sports, its athletes, and its programs. In order to make this a total success, we need your support! If you can help spread the word about the new website, the ever-increasing awareness will lead to a cyclical pattern of news flow that further strengthens the website’s foundation and future efforts. How can you help? If you’re a coach, please tell your athletes about the site. If you’re an athlete, parent or fan, please tell your friends! Be sure to bookmark our mainpage – and feel free to make it your homepage! If you’re on social media, please “Like” us on Facebook or send out a Tweet about our website. At meets, your word-of-mouth assistance is also a huge help! We’re still adding new tools to the website, so please be patient as we make it even better! We’ll also be adding the message board in the next few days to help bring the entire track and field and cross-country community even closer together. Thank you for sharing out excitement as we move forward. See you at the meets! Nate Fox, Jim Roldan and Rich Gonzalez

My VO2max Test Results: Running to Exhaustion! | Runblogger

That’s the description of the test itself, so what exactly does VO2max mean? Basically, it’s a measure of how much oxygen you can deliver to your working muscles during maximal exercise. The higher your VO2max, the more oxygen you are able to deliver to fuel metabolism. This is influenced by many factors, from your lung size to your cardiac output to the capillarization of your muscles to the function of enzymes in your muscles. However, despite how often VO2max is mentioned, it’s not a perfect indicator of performance capability (other factors like economy and anaerobic threshold come into play here), but it can give some idea of your endurance potential
