When I got to LA around 11pm, the station was a zoo. The line for the bus was already forming so I got to stand around for an hour in the line. Luckily a college freshmen from Biola was in front of me and we passed the time chatting and hoping we got a seat on the next bus. As the bus was loading, I realized I was going to be on another crowded one.
Sadly there wasn't two seats so we could sit together but in front of her was a young women clutching all of her stuff in the aisle seat. So I got lucky in that she was small and looked ready to sleep. The ride was cramped but with Above and Beyond blasting I was able to sleep in between stops. Finally at 8am we got to Phoenix where the sun was just rising (They dont observe Daylight Savings Time.)
Thankfully the local bus stop was nearby and I was able to take two buses to the race venue. Ride took 90 minutes because we stopped at almost every stop. Then it was time to walk to the race start. Of course I took the wrong way and what should have been a mile ore so turned into 2 miles but I was finally at the race around 10am.
Once I got to the race, I told the Coury brothers I would help out as long as I could be sitting so I ended up handing out bibs for most of Friday. Finally nightfall came and I went to bed a little hungry because there was no where near by to eat. The tent with the cot was nice but around 4am it got really cold and this was to be an issue throughout the race.
On race morning, I continued to hand out bibs because it gave me something to do and before I knew it was race time.
